Under the direction of the Director of Capital Works and Services and the immediate supervision of the Manager of Operations and Maintenance, the Janitors are responsible of keeping buildings in clean and orderly condition. The Janitor will be responsible for performing routine maintenance activities, notifying management of need for repairs and perform heavy cleaning duties.

• Performs assigned cleaning in meeting rooms, offices, washrooms etc.
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Clean all surfaces with correct products and procedures.
• Empties and cleans garbage, recycling and compost bins.
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
• Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
• Notify managers concerning the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems.
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Checks building security periodically and on closing the building.
• Perform other task requested by the Director or the Supervisor.
